For Milan Design Week, CITROËN’s style center will present its latest creation: a sofa that reflects the DS line’s DNA, elegance and sophistication.
With more than 90 years of creativity and its renowned know-how in terms of proportions, lines and workmanship with fine materials, CITROËN’s style is drawn from a world that goes beyond that of car- making. Fashion, leather goods, jewelry, furniture, decorative arts and architecture are sources of inspiration for increasingly sophisticated products, including the monogrammed jewel in the CITROËN DS3 convertible’s headlights, leather seats reminiscent of the classic sports cars of the past as inaugurated by the CITROËN DS4 and the DS logo, worthy of being displayed on luxury luggage.
Following the recent collaboration with L’Uomo Vogue to make an unprecedented CITROËN DS3 Cabrio, CITROËN’s style center is now turning to furnishings.
For the upcoming design week in Milan, CITROËN will present an unprecedented interpretation of a key element of modern furnishings: seating, particularly the sofa.
The DS sofa
For this piece of furniture, CITROËN designers sought to offer lines that evoke movement and fluidity, inspired by the DS line’s sculptural design. It’s a sort of suspended car frame, presented as a form of speed. The sofa plays with the DS line’s style codes and offers two areas in which its aesthetic unites with use: the armchair, with its shark fin-shaped back, and the sofa, with leather that recalls the classic sports cars of the past.
Its shape is based on a broad base with a support structure, a tribute to “La chaise” by Ray and Charles Eames.
Leatherwork: revisiting sports cars of the past
The sofa is fully upholstered in leather with unprecedented workmanship which recalls that of sports cars from the past, present on all models of the DS line. Its workmanship takes on a more open, almost floral form, a product of CITROËN’s master craftsmen.
Attention to detail to match the DS line’s sophistication
The scenery set up for the piece emphasizes its perspective, with contoured walls with a metallic look, which
evoke the world of car bodywork.
Its solid cast iron base is covered with leather and embellished with steel inserts that recall the CITROËN DS5’s chrome blade.
The DS line’s DNA is expressed in its every detail. The DS logo’s guilloché texture on its support structure is highlighted by a carmine red profile and placed in a luminous band of the same color, a tribute to the Crystal materials that characterize prestigious brands.
